Noch gar nicht dazu gekommen: Bis Sonntag bin ich in Birmingham beim Gigbeth Festival, bei dem ich wie im vergangenen Jahr fotografieren werde. 31 Bilder vom Gigbeth 2006 und einige Best-Of-Konzertfotos sind in einer Ausstellung im Bullrig-Einkaufszentrum zu sehen – falls also jemand zufällig die Tage in Birmingham sein sollte….

Endlich die ersten Bilder…. Leben ist einfach zu umfangreich. Die umwerfende Dame heißt Yaz Alexander und ist für die Bühne geboren. Mehr Gigbeth-Bilder werde ich in diesem Set nachliefern…
Noch immer warten die Bilder darauf, hochgeladen zu werden, ich habe den Vormittag allerdings shoppenderweise verbracht und war gestern zu müde. Daher erstmal nur ein wunderschönes Zitat von einer der gestrigen Bands: „This song is about going on a holiday after splitting up with your girlfriend because you have already paid the deposit for the room … (laughing in the audience) … Come on, you’ve all done that, haven’t you?“
Abgehakt: Die eigene Ausstellung eröffnet. Bilder laden gerade im Hintergrund auf die Platte, da werd ich vielleicht heute Nacht noch ein paar Bilder online stellen. Schöne Idee von Barry war es, gleich noch eine befreundete Band zu nem Unplugged-Gig in der Bibliothek zu überreden – so waren dann doch über 2 Stunden im Pressebereich rund 50 Leute versammelt, außerdem haben sich etliche Leute die Ausstellung auch so angesehen. Feedback war ausschließlich positiv, jetzt geht es gleich erstmal weiter zum Auftakt dieser Konzert-Reihe hier… wie gesagt, später mehr, dann auch die Geschichte aus dem Annabelle, wo 70-jährige reiche Schnösel mit 17-jährigen Schönheiten verkehren und ein Freund von mir DJ ist….
Ich war bislang noch nicht dazu gekommen, an dieser Stelle darüber zu berichten – Ende nächster Woche sind ein paar meiner Bilder für zwei Monate in einer Ausstellung in Birmingham zu sehen. Das ganze in der Zentralbibliothek von Birmingham. Pünktlich zum Ausstellungsstart findet auch das Gigbeth-Festival statt, wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, ist das sowas wie die Kieler Woche bzw. der Hamburger Hafengeburtstag für Birmingham. Das ganze Festival mit etlichen Auftritten werde ich auch fotografieren. Eben flatterte die Pressemitteilung von
Gotham Records (die organisieren Festival und Ausstellung) in mein Postfach, und ich komme gerade aus dem Grinsen nicht mehr raus…

World’s Biggest Stars Come to the City on CanvasThe superb talent of German photographer Marco Maas comes to the Second City on the 25th March, in his breathtaking exhibit, “In Concert, In Germany” at Birmingham Central Library. The canvas-based prints come straight from the
performances of stars like Duran Duran, Coldplay, James Blunt, Jamiroquai, Simply Red, Oasis and Seal. The passion seen in his work is contagious, with the spirits of the stars shining through the lens.Born in 1977 in Eutin, North Germany, Marco began his career in the Civil Service before moving into journalism. It has been since the mid-nineties that he discovered his passion for photography. He describes the motives for his work through, “The challenge in concert photography being to capture the spirit of a two hour musical event in one image. I think that the 31
pictures to be displayed are quite a close attempt at doing so.” His talent behind the lens cannot be doubted as this exhibition shows his ability to capture one moment in time.To see the full range of photo’s, go down to the Central Library from the 25th March, where his work is on display. This is a free event and just shows how Birmingham is the leading city in cultural awareness.

* He studied Media Technology in Hamburg, from 2001-2005
